Materials

Information provided below serves as a guide for selection of materials that can be used for construction of a KMS bearing. They have been approved for use as a KMS bearing race or ball material. These materials have been tested and used in demanding applications in a broad range of hostile environments. New materials are constantly being evaluated for suitability as a bearing component. If you require a material that is not listed, please contact KMS for consultation.

Plastic Vs Steel

Cleanliness/Hygienic: Plastic bearings generally operate cleaner than metal bearings because they do not need lubrication, they are resistant to corrosion, and they can be washed down without the worry of re-lubing. This capability makes them a viable option for clean room environments, and wash down applications. A plastic bearing made from either PBT, PVDF or PEEK can be post sterilized by standard methods such as autoclave or Gamma.
